The test is performed by your neurologist or a trained provider.

Your doctor may order this test to evaluate infections, inflammation, bleeding, autoimmune conditions, or unknown neurological symptoms.

3. What Should I Expect?
The area is cleaned and numbed. A thin needle is inserted into the lower back to collect fluid. You may feel pressure but not sharp pain. The test takes about 30–60 minutes.

Your test will be reviewed and interpreted by your neurologist. Results are typically available within 5–7 business days and will be uploaded securely to your patient portal.
